Dated 1671

Below is the will of William Staniforth, baptised on the 16th September 1607, the son of William Staniforth and Elizabeth Thorpe, and the husband of firstly Elizabeth Hodgson, secondly Dorothy Monk.


In the Name of God Amen, the firste day of June In the Three and Tentith yeare of the Raigne of our Sovraigne Lord Charles the Second By the Grace of God king of England Scotland, and Ireland.

Defender of the Faith: I WILLIAM STANIFORD of Sload lane in the parish of Eckington In the County of Derby Shearsmith, being Sick in body, but of good & perfect memory, praised be God, Doe make & ordaine this mv last Will & Testament in manner & forme Follow-in, First I comitt my Soule into the hands of Almighty God In sure hope of free pardon & forgiveness of all my sinnes In & through the meritts of Jesus Christ my only Saviour & Redeemer, And my body to be buryed at the descression of my Executrix hereafter named, And as for my Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to Endow me, I dispose of the same. In manner & forme following:

Item I give & bequeath unto my Sonne THOMAS STANIFORTH all that messuage barnes & buildings to the same belonging and Twelve acres of Land arrable meadow & pasture be it more or lesse with th'apurtenances called Lewik (?) farme lying and being in Killamarshe in the County of Darby, which I lately bought of Robert Cowley of Renishaw, & one meadow called plank meadow Lving in Killamarsh aforesaid with th'apurtenances, which I lately bought of John Harris of Killamarshe afordsd:

Containeing by estimation foure acres be it more or lesse to have & to hould to him the said THOMAS STANIFORD his heires & assines forever, from & after the death of me the said WILLIAM & DOROTHY my now wife, for & in full of his Childs pte & portion: Item: I give & bequeath to my Eldest Sonne WILLIAM STANIFORD one Cottage & barne & one acre of Land to the same adionneing with the appurtenances scituate & being in Killamarshe afordsd: which I lately bought of Charles Munkes & Richard Farr, to have & to hould to him the said WILLIAM his Heires & assignes for ever from & after the death of me the said WILLIAM STANIFORD & DOROTHY my now wife. for & in full of his Childs pte & portion. Item: I give & bequeath to ELIZABETH my daughter now wife of NATHANIEL GREAVES Twvelve pence in full of her Childs pt & portion. It: I give & bequeath unto JUDITI-I my daughterr now wife of HENRY BOOTH Twelve pence in full of her Childs pte & portion: I give & bequeath unto M.ARY, JUDITH & THOMAS BOOTH Children of the said HENRY BOOTH & JUDITH his wife the Sume of Tenn pounds with all the interest & improvement that can be made thereupon to be equally devided amongst them when thev shall aceomplish theire severall full ages or be maryed, & my will & mind is that the said Ten pounds shall be payed into the hands of mv Brother ROBERT S'TANIFORD bv mv Executrix hereafter named within one year nearest after my decease, and that he & his Executors shall let forth the same & take securitie for the use of the said Children afler the best manner he or thev can Improve it, & shall give an accompt to them for the same when they shall accomplishe theire severall ages or be marrved.

I Give & bequeath Unto my foure Daughter’s SARA. MARTHA, MARY & DOROTHY eache ot them Threescore pounds of Currant English Monev in full of their Childs pte & portions to be payed bv my Executrix

hereafter named when they shall accomplish theire severall ages of one & twentv yeares or be marryed.all the rest of my goods & Chattells my debts being first payd & personal expences discharged I give & bequeath to DOROTHY my now wife whom I herebv make mv sole Exececutrix of this my last will & testament, hereby revokeinge & makeing null vovd all tormer & other wills bv me heretofore made In
