Samuel Staniforth's mark on the will.

Below is the will of Samuel Staniforth, baptised on the 2nd February 1607, the son of William Staniforth and Lydia, and the husband of Mary Tompson.


In the Name God Amen the Thirteenth Day February In the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Six

SAMUEL STANIFORTH of HACKENTHORPE in the parish of Beighton and County of Derby Sicklesmith being of good health of Body and of perfect mind and memory thanks be Given unto God therefore knowing that it is appointed for all persons once to die I do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament First and principally I recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God that save it hoping through the Merits and Mediation of Jesus Christ to receive free pardon from my sins and my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently Buried at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named and as touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this Life I Give Devise and Dispose of the same in the following manner and form. First of all I have and Berqueath after my decease unto my loving Daughter SARAH STANIFORTH One Bed and Furniture and One Box with Linnens in and the Linnens that are in it for the T'erme of her Natural Life and after her decease then the Bedstocks shall be to and for my son JOHN STANIFORTH Also I have and Bequeath unto my said Daughter SARAH STANIFORTH the Sum of Fifteen Pence a Week Weekly and every Week During the Terme of her Natural Life to be paid her by my son JOHN STANIFORTH and if it happen that my son JOHN STANIFOR'TH die before my Daughter SARAH STANIFORTH then my Will and mind is that whosoever enter to the Personal Estate or Effects of my said son JOHN STANIFORTH shall pay unto my said Daughter SARAH STANIFORTH the Sum of One Shilling and Three Pence a Week Weekly and every Week during the Terme of her Natural Life and at my Decease my said Daughter SARAH STANIFORTH shall have all the eating Stuf, Meat Bread Cheese Butter Apples Milk or Corn which is in the Premises where I now dwell or parlour (?) or other Room Also I give and Bequeath unto my Son SAMUEL STAMFORTH Sicklesmith the sum of Five Pounds of good and Lawfull Money of EngIand to be paid him bv my Executor within the space of One whole Year and One Day next after my decease. Also I Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter RUTH ROWBOTHAM the Range Frogs and all things belonging it which is in the House where I now dwell and the Tongs and Fire Shovel and Fire Potter and a Brass Warming Pan. Also I Give and Bequeath unto my said Daughter RUTH ROWBOTHAM the Sum of Five Pounds of good and Lawfull Money of England to be paid her by my Executor JOHN STANIFORTH within the space of Two Years nerest after my decease. Also I give and Bequeath unto mv son WILLI AM STANIFORTH Sicklesmith the Sum of Five Shillings of good and Lawfull Money of England to be paid him bv my Executor JOHN STANIFORTH within the Space of One Year and One Day next after my Decease. Also I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter MARY ROSE the Sum of Five Shillings of good and Lawfull Money of England to be paid her by my Executor JOHN STANIFORTH within the space of One Year and One Day nearest after my Decease. Also I give and Bequeath unto my son THOMAS STANIFORTH Sicklesmith the Sum of Five Shillings of good and Lawfull Money of England to be paid him by my Executor JOHN STANIFORTH within the space of One Whole Year and One Day next after mv decease. And my son JOHN STANIFORTH shall pay all my Funeral charges and Expences. Also I give and Bequeath unto mv son JOHN STANIFORTH Sicklesmith all the rest and remainder of my Personal Estate Household Goods Money Securitys for Money Bonds Bills notes Book Debts whatsoever mine is in whose hands or Custody soever they be I also Nominate Constitute and Appoint my said son JOHN STANIFORTH sole and only Executor of this my last Will and Testament revoking and disanulling all other and former Wil1 or Wills heretofore bv me made and no other but this to be my last Will and Testament
