Below is the will of John Staniforth, baptised on the 24th March 1762, the son of John Staniforth, and the husband of Elizabeth Fox.

This is the last Will and Testament of me John Staniforth of Troway in the Parish of Eckington in the County of Derby Sickle Maker being of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to unto god. I give direct and bequeath all my singular real and Personal Estate and Effects Bonds Notes or of what kind or nature so ever or where soever I now am or at the time of my decease I shall and may be possessed of or Intitled unto and to the huse of my lawfull wife Elizabeth Staniforth during her natural life and at her decease I will that my Coppy property be sold by my trustees hereafter named Namely five dwelling houses with lands and appurtenances belonging there unto situated and being at Troway and after all just demands against it is paid the residue be equally divided amongst my five children Namely John Staniforth Mark Staniforth Alice Rotherham Ann Roberts Mary Staniforth share and share alike I will that my trustees be empowered to put ought my daughter Mary Staniforth share and by them applied for her benefit as they shall think fit I further will that my son John Staniforth have the land trade and premises I now hold at Troway by paying for tillages in the land according to the Custom of the Country and to take the stock in trade live and dead farming stock farming implements husbandary all work tools and fixtures at fair valuation by keeping my daughter Mary Staniforth during her natural life after all just debts is paid in trade on that part of my property divided betwickst my son John Staniforth and my son Mark Staniforth have it on the same conditions. I also will that my household furniture linings glass china plate and every thing be equally divided among my five above named children my son John Staniforth to have my daughter Mary Staniforth share by keeping her as above stated I further will nominate constitute and appoint my Son in Law Christopher Rotherham Sickle Maker of Dronfield in the County of Derby and Mark Staniforth Sickle Maker of Brambley Moore in the Parish of Eckington in the County of Derby to be trustees to this my last will and testament whereunto I set my hand this first day of April in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand Eight Hundred and thirty five.
