Grinding Wheel in the Never Fear Dam, Ford

This peculiar photo shows an old Grinding Wheel that was used in the grinding of blades such as sickles and scythes. The wheel was found in the Never Fear Dam in Ford, Eckington which is fed by the River Moss. In 1855 this damn was being rented by Mark Staniforth.

The wheel and the dam as a whole is a reminder of the importance of the Tool smithing and grinding industry in this part of the country.
