'Dance of the Natives of Australia' by Charles Staniforth Hext c1845 Charles Staniforth Hext was born on February 5th 1815 in Lostwithiel, Cornwall to John Hext, and Elizabeth Staniforth, the daughter of Thomas Staniford, former Lord Mayor of Liverpool.
He joined the 4th King's Own Regiment in 1835 and was stationed in New South Wales, Australia. He arrived at Hobard, Tasmania on November 12th, 1836 before being sent to India in 1837
He Returned to Hobard on November 24th, 1842 after narrowly escaping the wreck of the Waterloo Convict Ship in Cape Town, South Africa.
He was then sent back to India in 1843, where he remained with his regiment until his death in Attock, Punjab on January 26th, 1855 of Apoplexy.
Charles was an artist, known for his Lithography which he created during his time in Australia. Many of these paintings were published by Charles Hutchins of Liverpool in 1845
